PROPOSAL – in recognition of the history & legacy of this great country, our democratic values, the diversity
of the American people, the continuity of the nation and our valor & courage in facing adversity &
change, be it proposed that Nassau County celebrate the historical moment of Barack Obama's election as President of the United
States by sponsoring

Celebrating America Now! program features the placing of a picture or portrait of President Barack Obama, our current President
who is the first African American to achieve the highest office of the land, in the main lobbies and waiting rooms of government
buildings throughout Nassau County

HOW IT WORKS
*************************************************************************
Celebrating America Now! sponsors, representing the diverse ethnic and religious
cultures of the County, are to invite their fellow workers and employees to sign up & donate a framed picture
to be displayed in their workplace.Throughout November until President's Week in February of 2010, formal dedications are
encouraged at County and municipal government agencies and offices.From November to January, on the anniversaries
of Barack Obama's having been elected and sworn in as the 44th President of the United States, fitting ceremonies are to be
observed.

There would be no expense to the County or other participating
municipalities and institutions as the pictures are to be be donated by co-sponsoring organizations, citizens
and government employees. Elected officials, government officials & employees are to be invited to observe the installations
of the pictures and participate in the program by donating a framed picture.

Ethnic & Religious organizations are invited to participate and attend.County agencies such as The Office of Minority Affairs or the Human Rights Commission
could play key roles and host the events, similar municipal agencies could play a similar role for their respective dedications. A supplemental program is available for schools wishing to participate
and assistance is available in the design, planning and implementation of appropriate programs.
Various types of frames are available in order to ensure
a fitting and appropriate displays.

Celebrating America Now! and the display of pictures
should be marked by simplicity, affordibility, pride, adaptability and is strictly invitational and voluntary; thereby,
assuring that that the greatest number of employees and citizens participate. The arrangements for ensuring
the display of pictures at a particular work place or programs developed around it are properly left to the sponsors who
are encouraged to work in cooperation with their employees. Those donating a picture may attach a dedication in memory or
in honor of a loved one in their name on the back of the picture.
