Departure Pax Christi Metro New York presents On Living Pax Christi:Called to Keep on Keeping On A retreat with Fr. Kevin Queally, TOR March 6th – 7th, 2010 St. Joseph’s Renewal CenterBrentwood, Long Island About the Theme We fasted, marched, picketed, sat in…. We never succeeded, and we never quite gave up.
That is the best that can be said for us. We must be content if it is to be our obituary.
Fr.
Daniel Berrigan, S.J. The past year
was one filled with great hope and much disappointment. In a nation and world stuck in a culture of violence
and fear, many found themselves disillusioned and discouraged. But we are a people of faith and resilience.
We are bearers of the Peace of Christ, and it is our call to “keep on keeping on.” Of course, that is easier said than done. There is a cost to peacemaking, and we must ask ourselves
how much we are willing to give. How do we get from speaking peace to living it? Where
do we find the peace in ourselves to extend it to others? What must we change within ourselves before we
can expect to see it in others? In this retreat, Fr. Kevin Queally will help us work through these critical
questions with examples from his own life experiences and his Franciscan charism. Like many a great teacher,
he will use stories to guide and encourage us. Come, be refreshed and energized so we can “keep on
keeping on” together! About Our Presenter: Fr. Kevin
M. Queally, T.O.R. is a Franciscan of the Third Order Regular and Director of Campus Ministry/University Chaplain at Alvernia
University in Reading, PA. There, he is especially involved in many of the justice, peace and green initiatives. Born in Yonkers, Fr. Kevin’s ministry has brought him around the country and the world. He
taught, worked in a National Franciscan Justice and Peace office, served as a hospital chaplain, and as Secretary General
of the Order in Rome. In Pax
Christi, he helped found several local groups and the OH-PENN Heart region of PCUSA, served a term on the National Council, and offers consultation to PCMNY’s Development
Committee. He also works closely with members of the Secular Franciscan Order. A man of
deep conscience and commitment, Fr. Kevin resigned from his position as Assistant Vice-President for Mission Effectiveness
and Integration, because St. Francis University in Loretto, PA decided to introduce an ROTC program in contradiction to its
and the Franciscan mission of peacemaking and justice seeking. PCMNY is privileged to have this model of
peacemaking lead our 2010 retreat. Cost: The fee for the retreat, including four meals and one overnight stay, is $180.
The fee for commuters, including four meals but no housing, is $135. We hope you will agree that
it is best when you can participate in the full retreat. If, however, you can only come on Saturday, the
fee, including two meals, is $90. A $50 non-refundable deposit must accompany registration.
Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis through February 24th. Limited
scholarships may be available. Please call PCMNY for more information. Pax
